Econburgh 2027 · XVIII EconWorld Conference

The World Economic Research Institute (WERI) invites submissions to Econburgh 2027, the XVIII EconWorld Conference, to be held at St Leonard's Hall, University of Edinburgh, on 17–19 August 2027.

Edinburgh is the city of Adam Smith and the Scottish Enlightenment, and Econburgh 2027 brings that spirit of open inquiry to economics today. The conference welcomes theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented research from all fields of economics and finance, as well as multidisciplinary work that connects economics with management, agriculture, technology, data science, law, politics, health and the environment.

The programme includes keynote lectures and parallel sessions of contributed papers, with plenty of time for discussion. Our aim, as at every EconWorld conference since 2014, is to bring together researchers from around the world to exchange ideas, discuss new results and build lasting research collaborations.

Researchers at all career stages are welcome, from PhD students to senior academics, as well as economists working in central banks, government, international organizations and the private sector.

Submission guidelines

Abstract submission. Submit an abstract of up to 300 words in English through the online form, with 3–5 keywords and 2–3 JEL codes. You do not need an account: after submitting you receive your submission number, and you can revise your abstract under "Manage my submission" until the deadline.

Review. Every abstract is evaluated in a double-blind process by at least two members of the Scientific Committee. The decision is sent by email, usually within two weeks of submission. Authors who submit by the early deadline receive their decision in time for early registration.

Presentation. Accepted papers are presented in person in Edinburgh by one of their authors: 15 minutes of presentation followed by 5 minutes of discussion. One person may present at most three papers. There are no poster sessions.

Use of AI tools. Authors who used AI tools in preparing their work declare them in the submission form, with the purpose of use (for example, language editing). AI tools cannot present a paper or act as corresponding author.

Full papers. Submitting a full paper is optional, but it is required to be considered for the Best Paper Award (£500).

Travel grants. A limited number of grants (registration fee waiver, accommodation and meals) are available for presenting authors of accepted papers, in particular PhD students, early-career researchers and researchers from countries with limited support. See Awards & grants for details.

Publication opportunities. Presenting authors are invited to submit the full version of their paper to the partner journals of the conference after the event; papers follow the regular review process of each journal. [JOURNAL LIST – see note below]
